Faithful by Common, and why it had to make my soundtrack

Oct 28, 2026

Why Faithful by Common, from his 2005 album Be, is my track for trust and loyalty, and why one of my favourite rappers was always going to make my daily soundtrack.

When I think about trust, and about relationships, Faithful by Common is the song that jumps out.

It’s on Be, Common’s 2005 album, with John Legend and Bilal singing behind him, and it’s built on a sample of D.J. Rogers’ Faithful to the End. It’s a beautiful song. Common’s one of my favourite rappers, so it was kind of essential he made it into my daily soundtrack pretty soon.

The song asks what being faithful really looks like, to the person you love and to what you believe in. That sits nicely next to what I’ve been writing about trust, and Seneca’s idea that you take your time deciding who gets in, then trust them fully. When someone’s got your back, loyalty tends to come straight back the other way.

Press play and give it a proper listen. Who comes to mind when you think about loyalty?
