This is probably my favourite new song right now. It sounds like a whole bunch of my favourite music got together and had a love child.
To me, The Skinner Brothers sound like Arctic Monkeys or The White Stripes crossed with the ska revival bands I grew up with, The Specials and The Beat. Then throw in some drum and bass, a bit of The Prodigy and a few shades of Blur. That's a lot of boxes ticked by one band.
Pie N Mash is a great example. One line has you in London, and the next it's almost taking you to Jamaica. You can feel that sound system, sound clash energy coming through.
I love everything they're putting out right now, and this is the one I keep going back to.
Your turn
Give it a listen, then have a think: what other songs take you from your own streets to somewhere else entirely in the space of a line?
