Year Without Garlic Beer

Aug 30, 2012 | Life

A trip to the Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight, the garlic beer I tried again, and why it's one beer I'm happy to give up for good.

I’ve written a couple of times about the beers I am not drinking this year and thought I would add one more to the list – Garlic Beer! I was recently lucky enough to spend a few days away with my family on the Isle of Wight and took the opportunity visit the awesome Garlic Farm.

As a lover of garlic, this place is a great place to spend some time. There is a really nice walk around the farm, a shop that sells all things garlic (including garlic beer and garlic ice cream!), but best of all has to be the garlic farm’s cafe.

We visited on a Monday, and as Monday’s in our family are meat free we opted for the Garlic Farm Mezze. This consists of garlic hummus, sweet garlic cloves, fattoush salad, olives, roasted garlic, feta salad and garlic bread and at just £13.95 for 2 people is a delicious bargain. The last time we visited the garlic farm was in 2011, when I came away with a bottle of the garlic beer to try. I have to be honest and say that as much as I love garlic and as much as I love beer, garlic beer was not for me and hence is one beer I am happy to be going without.

Year Without Beer

Never mind the Olympics, 2012 is my Year Without Beer! I am spending all 366 days of this leap year alcohol free in an attempt to raise money for 2 charities that are both very close to my heart.

As part of my running challenge I am signed up to run a quarter marathon, 10 mile road race (Great South Run) and 8 mile off road challenge (The Grim Original).

In 2012 I was raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Cancer Research UK.
