Year Without Beer – Facts and Stats

Dec 29, 2012 | Life

With just over 2 days of my year without beer left, I'd run 667 miles since June, beaten my 500 mile target by 167 miles, and drunk no alcohol at all in 2012.

My year without beer now has just over 2 days to go until I will have completed 8,784 hours without any alcohol.

During this time approximately 800 million pints of beer will have been drunk in the UK and about 15,000 people in England alone will have died from alcohol-related causes. About 32% of these deaths are from liver disease, 21% from cancer and 17% from cardiovascular illnesses, such as heart disease and strokes.

As for me and my year without beer, I have drunk absolutely no alcohol at all in 2012. No beer, no wine, no cider, no rum, no cachaca…

In 2012 I was raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Cancer Research UK.

Since June I have run 667 miles, which is 167 more than the target I set myself with my  500 mile challenge and I am sure I will sneak in a few more miles before the year is over.

This website has received over 28,000 unique visitors and 1,175 of the 465 million people on twitter are following @yearwithoutbeer. I’ve posted over 4,000 tweets – many of these are thanks to a plugin on this blog that tweets old posts, so apologies if some don’t make sense, like if you see one on 1 January that says I am only 80 percent complete!

Oh, and I’ve picked up a few “likes” on my facebook page too - https://www.facebook.com/yearwithoutbeer
