Vineyard Without Wine

Jun 3, 2012 | Life

On a campervan trip to Suffolk, I visited Wyken Vineyards without touching a drop of their wine, settling for sparkling apple juice while my wife drank red wine from a half pint glass.

Where has the sunshine gone? It may be typical Bank Holiday weather, but that hasn’t stop my little family having a great weekend away in our campervan. Included on our trip to Suffolk was a visit to the Wyken Vineyards.

Most of the wine drunk in the UK may come from overseas, but we actually make some fantastic wines here too, including those from Wyken Vineyards. We last visited Wkyen Vineyards in 2008 and I have very fond memories of the bottle of their fine wine we drank that night. Obviously as this is my year without beer, during which I am avoiding all alcohol, this trip was without wine! That didn’t stop us having a nice relaxing walk around the grounds, buying some fresh produce from the farmers market and eating delicious food in the cafe.

I have to admit that I’ve had a number of evenings this year when I’ve really wanted a glass of wine. Red wine is a big favourite of mine and although I’ve had many cravings, I’ve also been very proud of myself for not giving in to those urges.

Anyway, this trip was wine free and the evening was spent with a lovely bottle of sparkling apple juice. Well, my evening was wine free – my lovely wife showed her support to my year without beer by drinking red wine from a half pint glass. Thanks Mrs M!
