Illustration of a pair of well-worn leather walking boots standing on a wooden stile at the start of a countryside footpath that winds away over green hills under a low golden sun

Walking the walk

I started a vlog, then didn’t post for days. Why the things you say you’ll do matter more than the things you say.

Illustration of six small plant pots on a sunny kitchen windowsill, each plant taller than the last from a tiny shoot to a tall leafy plant, with a small watering can beside them

Some things just take time

Our results come from our rituals. Change what you do every day and your results follow, just not as quickly as you’d like.

Illustration of a spade pushed into freshly dug soil in a small community garden, with gardening gloves and a watering can beside rows of young vegetable plants in golden morning light

Show up or shut up

Complaining on its own doesn’t change anything. Why I think we’ve got two choices when something bugs us: show up and do something, or let it go.

Illustration of a camera on a tripod pointed at a wooden chair with a running vest draped over it and a race medal hanging from the chair back, muddy trail shoes on the floor and a softbox light glowing gold

It’s all about angles

My team kept moving the camera to find the right angle. It got me thinking about how we judge our bodies, and how we look back at things.

Illustration of the inside of a front door from a cosy hallway, with a brass letterbox and a few plain envelopes and leaflets lying on the doormat in warm evening light

Content vs content

Content and content are spelt the same. I don’t think that’s an accident. How what you let in shapes how you feel, and what you put out shapes everyone else.

Illustration of a quiet sideboard by a window with an old leather-strap wristwatch beside a single lit candle on a small plain cake and an empty picture frame in soft evening light

Dad would have been 70 today

On what would have been my dad’s 70th birthday, a few thoughts on being honest with yourself and not waiting for permission to start living.

Illustration of a small hatchback raised on a lift in a tidy garage workshop at night, an inspection lamp glowing gold underneath, a toolbox, a pegboard of spanners and a clipboard on a hook

Time for a personal MOT?

Your car gets checked every year. When did you last give your own life the same once-over, and what might it be quietly costing you?

Illustration of a misty woodland running trail at dawn with a large fallen tree lying across the path and trainer footprints in the mud continuing on the other side

Obstacles and ostriches

A fallen tree on my morning run, a year to the day since my TEDx moment, and a question about how many of us bury our heads in the sand.
