Third episode back after the break, and Nigel came in asking if I'd watched the Oscars. I hadn't. Short answer. He had a story about an actor and Harrison Ford, and it took him straight onto vision boards.
Nigel made his first one in 2003, after a training weekend in Santa Barbara. A couple of weeks before we recorded, he was clearing out his office (I've seen that office, so I know what that took) and found it again. He hadn't looked at it in 12 or 13 years. Nearly everything on it had happened. He's got the sports car of his dreams. He's still not helicoptering to events, though, and he admits to sitting on the M25 thinking he could be home in 20 minutes. Some of what he'd put on there was mad stuff. Eating ice cream in Italy, for one. Four weeks after we recorded, he was off to do it again.
I've got a list that's almost ten years old. Most of the ten-year things I'd done within three to five, and most of the three-year things within one. A few I'd written down thinking there was no way. Then last November I did an 18-month version, a bit random, a 'wouldn't it be nice if' list. One thing on it I couldn't really see happening was about 80% of the way there by the time we recorded. I didn't say what on air, because it wasn't done yet.
I've done this one on stage. 60% of the word attraction is action, and I write the action bit in a different colour. So have the picture in your head, but at the very least talk about it. You might already know the person who can make it happen. Nigel thought I was going to write 'don't wait' and cross letters out till it said 'do it'. I wasn't.
His pet hate is people who email him saying one of his team will probably read it. He is the team.
Worth remembering
- Make a vision board. A big bit of card and a weekend with the family is all it takes.
- Put the mad stuff on it too. Ice cream in Italy counts.
- Write a 'wouldn't it be nice if' list, put it away, and check in every couple of weeks for one thing that gets you 1% closer.
- Tell people what you want. If no one knows you want it, no one's offering it.
60% of the word attraction is action.

I am the team. I'm reading this email.
