Couch to 500 Miles?

Nov 9, 2012 | Life

Less than five months after I started running, unable to manage a single mile, I was on track to pass my target of 500 miles that weekend.

Less than 5 months ago I decided to start running. I’d never run before and in fact I HATED running, but having seen my Dad complete the Southampton Half Marathon as a kid I had always wanted to follow in his footsteps and so I decided it was time to lace up my trainers and hit the pavement.

As part of my running challenge I decided to give myself a target of running 500 miles before the end of the year. No small feat given that when I started running I could complete a single mile without needing to walk sections.

Could I really run 500 miles in just 6 months? Well, it turns out the answer appear to be yes as I have now completed 99% of this challenge and hence expect to exceed the 500 miles this weekend!

Year Without Beer

The Olympics may be over, but my Year Without Beer isn’t! I am spending all 366 days of this leap year alcohol free in an attempt to raise money for 2 charities that are both very close to my heart.

As part of my running challenge I have completed a quarter marathon, a 10 mile road race (Great South Run) and am signed up to do an 8 mile off road challenge (The Grim Original).

In 2012 I was raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Cancer Research UK.
