Breathe by Dust and Data: Permission to Slow Down

Nov 1, 2026

A track about slowing down, taking a breath and giving yourself some grace, and why the pause is often where the clarity turns up.

Breathe is one of the simplest songs I’ve written. That’s on purpose.

It’s a Dust and Data track, from my own music project, and it’s about one thing: slowing down. Taking a breath. Giving yourself a pause long enough to find a moment of clarity, and giving yourself a bit of grace while you’re at it.

There are two versions on Spotify, the one above is the Deep Breath Dub, released on 22 May 2026. It’s an instrumental, three minutes and 26 seconds long, so there are no words to follow. Just space.

Why the breakdown matters

Anyone who’s spent time behind a pair of decks knows the power of the breakdown. The drums drop out, the room takes a breath, and when the beat comes back in, it lands harder than it would have without the gap. Take the space away and the drop doesn’t mean much at all.

Life works the same way. Most of us are pretty good at the busy bits. We fill the diary and answer the messages. What we’re often less good at is the gap: the pause where nothing’s being achieved and nobody’s being impressed.

Yet that’s usually where the clarity turns up. When you stop for a moment, the thing you’ve been chasing round in circles often settles down and starts to make sense.

A bit of grace

The other half of the song is grace. When you’re tired or behind, the voice in your head can get pretty harsh. You should have done more. You should be further on by now.

Giving yourself grace means talking to yourself the way you’d talk to a friend who was having a hard week. Slow down. Take a breath. You’re doing better than you think.

So take the pause. Get your feet back under you, and carry on with a clearer head.

When did you last give yourself three minutes with nothing to do but breathe?
