Warwick Castle Half Marathon – Done!

Mar 17, 2013 | Life

Two weeks after my first half marathon, I ran the hilly Warwick Castle course and finished in 1 hour 43 minutes, more than six minutes quicker than Silverstone despite the hills.

Just 2 weeks ago I completed my first official half-marathon in 1 hour, 49 minutes and 53 seconds. I was really chuffed with that time. I have only been running 9 months and when I started it was taking me about 12 minutes to do a mile. I was hoping today I could match this time or maybe even beat it by a little. That was until I saw how hilly the Warwick Castle course is.

My wife and daughter were with me today to offer support. When the first racer to finish crossed the line about 20 minutes slower than the Silverstone winner and then said how hilly the course was in an interview my wife predicted I would be slower than Silverstone. This means she didn’t have a camera ready when I crossed the line in 1 hour, 43 minutes and 43 seconds – more than six minutes quicker than Silverstone! To say I am chuffed with my time is a serious understatement.

Just 10 weeks until my first marathon – eek!

2013 Miles in 2013

I am doing my 2013 miles in 2013 challenge in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as I have been surprised since I started fundraising for the CF Trust just how many people are unaware of this disease and so I hope my efforts will not just raise money, but also awareness of the UK’s most most common life-threatening inherited disease.

2013 Miles in 2013 – The rules

The rules for my 2013 miles in 2013 challenge are quite simple:

  1. All miles must be completely self powered (no motors, sails, etc)
  2. I must be able to evidence all miles, either via GPS or with a picture of any static gym equipment

To complete my 2013 miles I will be running, cycling, rowing and who knows, I might even try a few other self powered methods along the way.
