Remembering a much-loved young man

Remembering Adam

Mar 4, 2012 | Life

I remembered a friend who died from Cystic Fibrosis aged just 18, never once complaining despite years in hospital, as I carried on my alcohol free year in 2012.

On 4 March 2003 the world lost a cheeky, inspirational young man called Adam. Adam was just 18 years old when he lost his lifelong battle with Cystic Fibrosis, the UK’s most common life-threatening inherited disease. Despite spending large parts of his short life in hospital Adam never once complained, not even of a headache.

Approximately 25% of children affected by Cystic Fibrosis pass away before they become adults and although the life expectancy of Cystic Fibrosis patients continues to increase the average life expectancy is still only 30 to 40 years.

Cystic Fibrosis affects over 9,000 youngsters in the UK and there is presently no cure.

Regular readers of this blog will know that I am giving up all alcohol throughout 2012 (all 366 days) to  raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Cancer Research UK.
