The key inspiration for my year without beer may be to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Cancer Research UK, but I am also using it an excuse to “reboot” my health.
“Rebooting” My Health
Back in late 2009 I lost over 4 stone (56 pounds) by simply changing my relationship with food and moving my body a little more than I had previously. During this process I started to read lots about health and nutrition and this lead me in to juicing.
Life in 2011 was very busy. I was travelling all over the globe for work and hence often found myself in hotels, airports and restaurants. During this time I started to revert to some of my old eating habits as it was often easier to grab a quick burger than to hunt for a healthy salad. I found that these 12 months caused me to regain some of my weight and to lose some of my energy and vibrancy.
I kicked off my year without beer with a juice detox and shed 12 pounds in weight in just 1 week. I now continue to focus on my health and ensure I find more time in my busy schedule (I am still travelling lots) to find the foods that can give me the nutrition my body demands and get my body moving at least once a day.
I strongly believe that we are what we eat and that bad diet can lead to the perfect breading ground for disease. There may be drugs available to treat almost every illness these days, but is there a better way to have good health?
My discovery of juicing has in turn lead me to read even more books including some of those by Jason Vale a.k.a. The Juicemaster. Here is 17 minute video of Jason explaining his views on the idea of “One disease, one solution” at TEDx Dubai in 2010.
